Vinaforest holdings covers a large land area of some 100,000 ha in northern provinces of Vietnam. Vinaforest works closely with Forestry Department of the Government, as well as state-owned Vietnam Forest Corporation. Master planning of the lands involve ecological, social and impact studies to establish environmental baseline. Subsequently, the work involved detailed mapping and tracking of the Production Forest cycles, logistics for export processing and manufacturing/port operations to consolidate forestry related products. Forest lodges, eco-resorts and country homes were also featured on key vantage areas close to National Parks and tourist attractions. Other sustainable livelihood plans that were included in the scope of works were mostly related to Overseas Development Assistance programs, in collaboration with foreign governmental agencies.

Ambriz, Angola was earmarked as a transit point between the off-shore oil fields and Luanda, the overcrowded capital of Angola, an oil rich nation. Client was related to Chinese state interests to develop and invest in large infrastructure projects in Angola, through joint ventures with state owned companies. The scope of work was for conceptual off shore logistic hub for both re-fueling and recreational pit-stops. The scale was large and definition of off-shore support hub became ecologically sensitive treatment of the current pristine Ambriz town. Mangrove areas are protected, whilst large common services tunnel were introduced as a backbone for infrastructure. Sustainably developed land for labor housing and many amenities were featured.

North of Dhaka, Bangladesh saw several floods which caused widespread damage and loss of human lives. Localities of housing and settlements were often either densely packed in higher grounds or built on levees which doubled as roads. Japan Platform (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan) funded a program to vary the pattern of housing construction, layout and style to accommodate local cultures as well as to form a new typology for disaster mitigation. Planning work evolved from mere disaster relief operative mandate to one of reconfiguration of human settlement pattern. The 122 houses constructed were built on stilts and had several detachable portions for movement. The layout was done to take into account several environmental factors and buildable characteristics of the government allocated lands.

Frequent typhoons in metro Manila, Philippines, often result in destruction of housing and loss of property rights. Japan Post funded a program to work in creating affordable and compact homes for certain dislocated groups. The planning work involved were largely social impact studies to determine the approach and priority construction of housing. 40 Houses were built in a pilot housing program.

The mountains of Pakistan are an indomitable challenge to conventional planning. Most of the human settlements and housing were traditional or nomadic, with many being in a state of disrepair. An earthquake had struck and there were quadrupled logistic problems in rebuilding and re-establishing human settlements. Our planning work was a result of deconstructed mode of operations, where the work was on supporting housing and rebuilding activities through mobile home DIY depots. This was funded by Japan Platform (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan) and the program was a solid credible success in providing housing services infrastructure and technical assistance in planning to 1100 households.

Youth Leaders for a Sustainable Future is a contest aim at raising the consciousness of the future generations for a sustainable and liveable environment. As the future of our cities lies in the hands of young people, this year's theme Planning a Green and Clean City enables youths to experience what it takes to build a city from scratch. Township planning is a cross disciplinary art and science, requiring those involved to balance different interests, stage projects without interrupting current services and to push for the common good.

This competition is based on real life, real time and interactive townships. The township selected will have a defined boundary, sufficient information and appropriate assumptions associated with the purposes of the competition. Participants will be given standard township details they will have to work with. This exercise amalgamates various skill sets through an exercise of township planning. We believe that through a mutual learning environment by pitting interdisciplinary skills with fellow contestants the quality of critical thinking and systems thinking can then be raised to a higher level at an accelerated pace.

The Town Planning Study Program is fully hosted by Activistar and offers a series of study tours to engage overseas participants in the planning and development of Singapore's urban solutions. Beginning with an overview study of Singapore's city planning, this is followed by 6 separate chapters which will provide a more in-depth knowledge of public housing, transportation, conservation, development of the Industrial zones, commercial sectors and the greening of the city.

This 5 full-day program package includes the program itself, plus 4 nights hotel accommodation, 5 lunches, airport transfers, interactive sessions with the relevant government authorities and private sectors, and site visits to important locations around the country.
